Design Ideas

Well it has been an interesting week to say the least, I can only say so much now but it will all be revealed soon I promise!

I've been a bit meh on the old knitting front, not knowing what to knit and a lot of the time not wanting to knit anything I have on the needles. At times I have turned to spinning and this scratched my crafty itch a bit but I don't know, I have been a bit unsettled.

I know other podcasters have also had a knitting funk so I think it may just be the time of year...we'll see.

On a more positive note I was pondering whilst driving home this evening. I am not usually a fan of summer knitting, I don't love cotton as much as wool and well looking at the weather lately wool is more fitting for a British summer! I pondered designing a garment a while ago, I bought some yarn and had big prospects for it, yes I thought I will make another little tee and I will stripe the yarn and all will be well with the world.

Well after knitting two rondeur tees the appeal seems to have worn off so I have reconsidered what this yarn will be when it grows up. The yarn in question is 'Aimee' by Louise Harding, perfect yeah? It is even spelt the same as my name and I always thought if I were to be a yarn I would have a little cashmere in the mix. It is a 90% cotton, 10% cashmere mix and it is an extremely soft yarn, our eyes met across the room and we knew it was meant to be.

I have sat at my desk tonight with a little jotter and a smudgy pen and scribbled down some ideas. At the moment it looks like an A line summer top, with straps or without (haven't got that far yet), with a cabled rib hem at the top to keep it up and then a gradual A line flare. Predominantly pink but with a grey stripe here and there for good measure.

The figures are working out at the moment, I have swatched with a number of needles and am settling on a 4.5mm for a nice loose gauge, floaty light for summer when I run through fields of corn with flowers in my hair and sometimes riding a horse....oh hold on that is the Marc Jacobs Daisy perfume advert....ahh

I will keep you all posted regarding its progress....

Oh and one final note, why did nobody tell me that the ribbing on Audrey in Unst takes FOREVER? It's pretty though

Happy knitting everyone x

  2. Love that floaty image, but it definitely sounds like something waiting for a punchline :)People don't tell you about things like ribbing etc in a similar way to not telling you about childbirth. If they did, no one else would ever do it!!! How's the design coming on?
