A slight delay

Image
Hi everyone, As many of you may know we have recently moved house but will be without the internet until the end of August due to the Olympics *grumble grumble*. In the meantime i will try and keep the blog updated with what is going on, it will all be brief as i have to do it in my lunch hour or sitting in the car outside of our apartment! Oh yeah we have no phone signal either...what did people do before all this technology? I am partaking in the ravellenic games and am knitting lots of socks so i will post update photos when possible :-) In the meantime here is a wind farm i visited last week!

Tour de Fleece

Image
Hi everyone, As many of you may be aware the Tour de Fleece has commenced and spinners everywhere are digging out their fibre and fluff and deciding what their goals will be for this tour. It is the first year I have taken part and I have not yet discussed it on the podcast as I am trying to keep it a bit low key due to moving house etc...however I have taken part in the past 2 days and I have to say I m enjoying it immensely. I will discuss it in the next podcast and for ease (and solidarity to all podcasters) I joined Team Sasquatch. Day 1 was a busy day, knitting group, catching up with friends and packing up the house so I decided the best way to spin was on my drop spindle, I am not sure how much I got spun up but I did get some done which is all that matters plus I got to watch Harry Potter whilst doing so! Here is what I have so far: This is a hand dyed shetland braid which has tones of oranges, yellows, browns and peaches. It is spinning up to look like an almost t...

An ode to Owls

Image
What needs to be said really? Owls by Kate Davies is one of the most popular jumper patterns on Ravelry. Everyone loves Owls, and who wouldn't it is a jumper with a yoke of cabled owls. I'm quite renowned for my Owls as I have 2 , the both have no eyes, but I love them dearly and here is why... I love my Owls (1) because it is warm and snuggly, yes its looking a little bobbly these days but it was my choice to knit it from a loosely plied wool/mohair blend. I can pull it on and feel instantly comforted and cosy, plus I think it is the only jumper I own which has sleeves long enough for my spider like arms. I love the shaping of the jumper, it is so pretty and helps give my impish frame a bit of shape. I love the way that every time I wear it and enter a wool shop people point and say 'Owls!' and this is great as it gives me the opportunity to talk about this fantastic pattern. I love my Owls (2) as I knit it in super chunky at a dense gauge so it keeps me ...

Design Ideas

Well it has been an interesting week to say the least, I can only say so much now but it will all be revealed soon I promise! I've been a bit meh on the old knitting front, not knowing what to knit and a lot of the time not wanting to knit anything I have on the needles. At times I have turned to spinning and this scratched my crafty itch a bit but I don't know, I have been a bit unsettled. I know other podcasters have also had a knitting funk so I think it may just be the time of year...we'll see. On a more positive note I was pondering whilst driving home this evening. I am not usually a fan of summer knitting, I don't love cotton as much as wool and well looking at the weather lately wool is more fitting for a British summer! I pondered designing a garment a while ago, I bought some yarn and had big prospects for it, yes I thought I will make another little tee and I will stripe the yarn and all will be well with the world. Well after knitting two rondeur tee...
